A Cuppa for a Cause - Merriwa hosts an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea
“When three of my precious friends and family members lost their courageous fights with cancer in just five years, I knew I had to do whatever I could to help find a cure,” said Vanessa Brambley.
Twenty-three-year-old Vanessa, an Area Co-Ordinator at Merriwa’s Wangaratta Timber division, and Naomi Leslie from Merriwa’s Wodonga plant, hosted two Biggest Morning Tea events with their colleagues from every division of Merriwa. Together they raised over one thousand dollars.
“We were amazed with the result. We thank all the generous people who donated prizes, purchased raffle tickets, popped coins into the collection tins and shared homemade treats at our morning teas. The response was overwhelming.
“A big thank-you also goes to Merriwa who sponsored the morning teas, providing catering and funding,” said Vanessa.
The donation to the Cancer Council goes to supporting the organisation’s work in cancer research, prevention and support for those impacted by cancer. One thousand dollars pays for an analysis of two gene samples, helping to progress research into finding a cure.
“Every little bit helps fund this vital research. With one in two Australian’s being diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, everyone is touched in some way by this insidious disease. Hopefully one day a cure for all cancers will be discovered and we can look forward to a cancer free future,” said Vanessa.
Vanessa and Naomi are already planning the Biggest Morning Tea event they will host next year.
