Students from Wewak Street School in Albury have been gaining new skills in their work experience journey at Merriwa’s Packaging site in Wodonga.
Five students are currently involved in the work experience program and are leaving a great impression on the Merriwa team.
Karina Whatley, Engagement and Development Leader has said, “The group of students from Wewak Street School have been amazing. They are all so passionate, have great initiative and are an asset to our Wodonga team.
“Providing a pathway to employment for the students is our goal as they transition from school to employment and we look forward to supporting the students on their journey.”
The students completing placement have given great feedback from their experience with several of them looking to transition to employment at Merriwa.
Jack Howell is one of those students and graduated from Year 12 last year. Jack is increasing his trial hours with the goal of transitioning to an employed role at Merriwa, saying “It’s a fun workplace and I’m happy at work.” Jack’s brother Beau is also completing work experience and according to his classmates he is a wiz with numbers and enjoying his time at Merriwa.
Another student, Kaleb Hearn is currently in Year 11 and is also transitioning to permanent employment at Merriwa. Kaleb says “I have fun at Merriwa, it’s hands on and a good place to work.”
Abbey Morton is also completing work experience as part of the group and says she would like to be a Paramedic or to work at Merriwa, “I am building my skills, confidence and making new friends”.
