International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a day to raise awareness, understanding and acceptance of the 5.5 million Australians living with disability.
Did you know?
• 1 in 5 Australians have a disability
• 15% of people aged 0–64 have disability
• More than half of Australians over 65 live with disability
• 7.9% have a profound or severe disability
• 1 in 10 people with disability have experienced discrimination
This year’s theme, 'Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress', is a reminder that we all play a part in building a fairer, more inclusive society; one where people with disability are respected, valued and given equal opportunity.
At Merriwa, this isn’t just a message for today, it’s our purpose everyday.
Everyday, we:
• Provide safe, supportive and integrated workplaces where people with and without disability work side by side
• Invest in training and skill development to help individuals grow professionally and personally
• Champion independence, confidence and social connection
• Offer real career progression and meaningful roles across multiple industries
• Celebrate strengths, abilities and contributions, not labels
Our purpose is simple: create opportunities for people with disability to thrive.
Let’s continue to build a society where everyone belongs and everyone has the chance to shine.
